Meet Our Doctors
Dr. Richard Douglas, OD received his Bachelor of Science in Biology from Murray State University in Murray, Kentucky. He received his Doctorate of Optometry from the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago, Illinois.
Dr. Douglas completed externships with concentrations in diagnosis and management of ocular disease at Franklin Delanor Roosevelt Veterans Administration Hospital in Montrose, New York, Perry Point Veterans Administration Hospital in Perry Point, Maryland, and Illinois Eye Institute Center for Advanced Ophthalmic Care. In addition, Dr. Douglas also completed externships in the Illinois Eye Institute's Pediatric & Binocular Vision and Low Vision Departments with focuses on management and treatment of low vision, pediatric and binocular vision. Dr. Douglas has also participated in clinical trials for new contact lenses.
Awards and honors include: Award of Distinction from Illinois Eye Institute Center for Advanced Ophthalmic Care, 1998, Award of Distinction from Illinois Eye Institute Low Vision Rehabilitation Service, 1998, Corning Medical Optics Low Vision Award, 1998 Honors from FDR VA Hospital Optometry Department, 1997, Honors from Perry Point VA Hospital Optometry Department, 1997. Dr. Douglas is a member of the the American Optometric Association, the Virginia Optometric Association and the Richmond Optometric Society.
Dr. Douglas specializes in general ophthalmic care, glaucoma management, pre and post-operative cataract care, and advanced ophthalmic care. Dr. Douglas entered into private practice in 1998 in Chester, Virginia. Since 2001, Dr. Douglas has been practicing with a private ophthalmology group. He is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Virginia Optometric Association.
Dr. Jill Leisner, OD, received her Bachelor of Vision Science from Ferris State University in Big Rapids Michigan and her Doctorate of Optometry from the Michigan College of Optometry at Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Michigan. Dr. Leisner completed a Cornea/Contact Lens Residency for NOVA Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. There she concentrated in specialty contact lens fitting including: scleral lenses, gas permeable multi-focal lenses, keratoconic lenses, CRT lenses and all soft contacts and modalities as well as ocular disease.
Dr. Leisner completed externships at Wm. Jennings Bryan VA Medical Center in Columbia South Carolina with concentrations in ocular disease, particularly diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma and age-related macular degeneration, and low vision examinations, at the Kresge Eye Institute in Detroit Michigan with a focus on specialty contact lenses, low vision, and ocular disease, and at Cherry Street Health Services in Grand Rapids, Michigan with a focus on ocular disease and pediatric examinations. She also completed an internship at Michigan College of Optometry with experience in primary care, contact lenses and pediatrics.
Awards and honors include: American Academy of Optometry Student Travel Fellowship and George N. Holcomb Memorial Scholarship.
Dr. Leisner is a member of the American Optometric Association, the Virginia Optometric Association and the Richmond Optometric Society. She is currently a candidate for the American Academy of Optometry. She has previously held memberships in the Michigan Optometric Association and served as treasurer of the Student Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity. In 2011, Dr. Leisner completed an Optometry medical mission trip to Peru.

Dr. Robert Malatin, OD retired January 2014. Congratulations to Dr. Malatin on a forty-year career specializing in pre and post-operative eye care and disease management and primary eye care needs and a well-deserved retirement and fun adventures in the coming years.
Dr. Christopher McGarry, OD received his Bachelor of Science in Biology and his Bachelors of Arts in French from Hampden-Sydney College in Farmville, Virginia. He received his Doctorate of Optometry from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Dr. McGarry completed externships at Langley Air Force Base Hospital in Hampton, Virginia, Dr Elliott Myrowitz in Baltimore, Maryland and The Eye institute in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He has also participated in clinical research studies for glaucoma medications for Merk & Co.
Dr. McGarry has been in private practice for twenty two years. He specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of eye disease, pre and post-operative opthalmic care. He has a considerable contact lens practice and specializes in complex contacts lens fits, as well as general ophthalmic care.
Dr. McGarry is a member of the American Optometric Association, the Virginia Optometric Association and the Richmond Optometric Society.
